I spend a great deal of time photographing some very beautiful homes. Each one has its own character and the designs in this area are usually traditional in nature, so I am very rarely overwhelmed by a particular homes design. Until recently. This shoot was for the September issue of Salt Magazine. When Senior Editor, Ashley Wahl, told me about the home I was really anxious to do this job. The home is one of three Certified Passive homes in North Carolina and the first Certified Passive home in Wilmington. So yeah, I was excited.

The 5500 sf home sits at the top of a beautiful site overlooking Hewletts Creek and is enveloped by these incredible, old, live oaks. ¬†Lucien Ellison, his wife Jane, and their three boys are the occupants. Lucien is also the builder of the home and it was constructed by his company, Ellison Building Company. He hopes to bring many more passive homes to this area. The home was designed by local architect, Kevin Pfirman. This is the second Kevin Pfirman designed home that I have photographed and I have to say, I like his clean designs. If you haven’t picked up a September copy of Salt Magazine, do so. Ashley’s story of this home describes the many details behind its creation. It really is special.
